Unilateral population transfers is ethnic cleansing and Arab-Israelis without voting rights is apartheid. This out-hawks even the most hawkish of Diaspora Zionists. Will this be Mitt Romney’s peace plan if he’s elected president later this year?

There’s no doubt that there’s a certain industry, particularly in Europe, that seems to live off the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The conflict, Zionism and Israel have all been favourites of the left, particularly since the fall of the Berlin wall. These guys know very little and certainly do “take advantage of what we’re most proud of: Our freedom, democracy and the tolerance,” as Dror writes.

Yair Lapid: “Look how Shas, with 11 seats, has the entire country wrapped around its finger”. The man’s not the perfect candidate, but he could throw a spanner in the works of the dominant ultra-Orthodox parties that dominate the Knesset’s committees and hijack Israeli coalitions. That’s something to look forward to.

Will Knesset elections be held as soon as August? The latest poll indicates it would be quite a tight contest — the right-wing camp holding a slim majority, 61-56 over the left bloc.

I’m just waiting for the establishment thought police to come out and condemn this. Krugman is one of the most prominent liberals in America, and he rarely comments on things like this — big words from someone who gets (and deserves) so much respect. It’s a boost for Beinart, too, who continues to be subject to a witch-hunt in the media.

Muki Tsur, a former mazkir of the Kibbutz Movement in Israel, writes about liberal Zionism in the Huffington Post as part of a series they’re running for Yom Ha’atzmaut. A must-read, particularly for anyone who went on Shnat with Habo and has read Muki’s writings before. ‘By creating a national home and political sovereignty, the Jewish people took on the responsibility for promoting justice.’

“Can the Jewish people segue from deeply ingrained victimhood to the moral and practical dictates of being a major power? … Yes, there are risks for Israel in allowing a Palestinian state. But as Jews, we cannot tolerate a Jewish state that ignores its own Declaration of Independence and the teachings of our sages over thousands of years.”

A bunch of Israelis have come up with an idea that involved unilateral actions to begin ending the occupation, given the lack of direct and fruitful negotiations taking place. Their ideas are very interesting and worth consideration. If things continue like they’re going, I think we’ll see more, not less, of this type of out-of-the-box thinking.

How within government ranks can there be this kind of disdain for a High Court ruling? How can Michael Oren claim that the Supreme Court is a bastion of democracy with Jews and Arabs serving side-by-side when members of the government he represents doesn’t recognise its authority?

Apart from the joy of seeing Goldberg rip into Gordis and Stephens and co., it’s really the second paragraph I’ve quoted that’s the killer. This discussion is terrifying for those who depend on the restrictions of the conversation and the narrow definition of what it means to be pro-Israel. Beinart’s book is about shaking away the comfortability of the community discussion we’ve had so far, and our acceptance of the status quo.
